Founded in 2007, Musical Banquet are a trio of Oxfordshire-based musicians who share a love of Early Music and fine dining. Their novel and entertaining presentation of musical recitals, with groups of items grouped into themed ‘courses’, has won them many admirers. Their tally of performances, which has now passed the 100 milestone, has covered the length and breadth of the country. Besides encountering well known composers, such as William Byrd, John Dowland and Henry Purcell, audiences have been introduced to lesser-known Renaissance musical delights from all corners of Europe.

Concert programmes are presented in the form of a tri-fold ‘menu’; performances range in scope from short thirty minute recitals through to a full evening’s entertainment of two forty minute halves with an interval.  Wherever a harpsichord tuned at A=415 is unavailable the excellent Roland C-30 digital instrument is substituted.

On stage at the Sypert Concert Hall, Edinburgh, 10 July 2018. Harpsichord by Thomas Barton 1709

Taking a bow at Foulis Castle, 27 May 2018
